On-ice at the camp

4 Jan 2012 - The first Pacific-Asia Junior Curling Camp, run jointly by the World Curling Federation and the New Zealand Curling Association, has just wrapped up at the Maniototo Curling International indoor rink in Naseby.

24 Junior curlers from Japan, Australia and New Zealand took part in the 6 day camp in early January – including junior athletes who will heading to Innsbruck, Austria for the 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games this month.

Special thanks go to all those involved in making the camp such a success. As well as fine-tuning techniques on the ice, the junior campers have had a chance to experience the New Zealand way of life with barbecues and outdoor activities including a spot of sheep shearing.

18 Jul 2011 – The NZ Curling Association was delighted with a very successful and enjoyable 125th Jubilee celebration at the end of June, and confirms the results of recent National titles.

Coming up are further National championships and the 100% Pure NZ Winter Games. All NZ curlers are also invited to participate in the Trans-Tasman challenge in Melbourne at the end of September.

16 Jun 2011 – Included in this newsletter are recommendations from the recent High Performance Committee meeting and contact details of the newly confirmed Executive Committee after the Annual General Meeting.

The NZCA also seeks applications for a third selector for both the Open and Seniors teams, and for coaches of the various national teams.

16 Jun 2011 – The 2010 Pacific Curling Championships may have been the last – under that name at least.

The six member associations have unanimously agreed that the name of the Pacific Curling Federation should change to Pacific-Asia Curling Federation.

This change will now await formal ratification from the World Curling Federation.

15 Jul 2011 – A mild start to the New Zealand winter may have kept the farmers happy with a longer growing season, but it created a few headaches for organizers of the NZ Curling Association's 125th Jubilee Bonspiel.

With no chance of natural ice, four ice rinks in the lower South Island hosted the 28 teams on Thursday 23 and Friday 24 June. Most sides played at a different venue on each of the two days of keen but friendly competition. The 7 rounds of crampit curling were followed a round of hack on Friday afternoon, and then a Jubilee dinner at Ranfurly on Friday evening.

11 Apr 2011 – The NZ Curling Association's April newsletter announces the NZ team for the 2012 Youth Winter Olympic Games, and opens nominations for national Open and Junior teams for the 2011/12 season.

There is also an update on the proposed National League, and reminders of May's AGM and June's 125th Jubilee celebrations.

16 Mar 2011 – The NZ Curling Association's second newsletter for 2011 confirms next weekend's selection and training camp for the 2012 Youth Winter Olympic Games, and also the year's National events calendar.

Notice is given of the NZCA's AGM in May and nominations are called for Executive positions falling vacant, including the imminent retirement of Secretary Pat Cooney.
