3 Sep 2009 – Excellent curling, outstanding sportsmanship and unbelievable tension were all present during the conclusion of the 2009 North Island Secondary Schools Curling Championships at Paradice Avondale today.

Remarkably, all three finals – Mixed, Girls and Boys – were decided by a draw to the button after each was tied when the clock ran out.

And in each game a repeat draw was necessary as nerves struck, and all stones were outside the house after the first draw from each side.

Super Streaker
Liz Matthews wasn't expecting this when she took her camera out to get some action shots...

24 Jul 2009 – It happens all the time at one day cricket. It happened in the curling Bronze medal game at the Turin Olympics, and now it's happened in the eighth round of the Auckland School Curling competition.

Just as the first end was getting underway at Paradice last night, a masked streaker leapt the barrier onto the ice and tobogganed across the four sheets.

He then scrambled over the barrier on the far side before disappearing out into a wet Auckland night.

8 Oct 2007 – Local Auckland schools came out on top in the national curling championships last weekend at Paradice Avondale.

Watched by National Junior selectors Peter Becker and Merv Jamieson (who were in Auckland with the Maniototo boys), Long Bay College (mixed), Baradene College (girls) and Birkenhead College (boys) emerged victorious.

In superb conditions on ice groomed through the night, the Birkenhead team of Min Woo Yim, Jonny Yoon and Yuki Mori beat Henderson (Brittany Taylor, Cory Mills, Tony Hill and Kyle Calder) 11-1 in the boys' final with Massey Ramrod beating KBHS Red 6-0 for third.

20 Sep 2007 – Congratulations to Massey High School, Epsom Girls Grammar and Long Bay College on their successes in the 2007 competition.

Massey High School Frosties and Massey High School Ramrod tied for first place in the Boys' Competition, with both teams winning 4 and drawing 1 of their 6 games. The Long Bay College team took out the Mixed Championships, and Epsom Girls Grammar Ku won the Girls' title.
