9 May 2009 – It is my privilege to report on the past season of the Royal and Ancient game of Curling in the Naseby Council. A particularly mild winter with limited frosts in succession meant that most of the one day matchers were unable to be called, however a full calendar of matches were held on the Maniototo Ice Rink.

The season started off with the Nicholson Trophy match played between the top two teams of the Naseby and Idaburn Councils from the previous season.  Otago Central and Garabaldi representing Naseby Council. Otago Central ran out the winner with Gore as Runner-up and Garabaldi in Third place

The Hore Cup and the Douse Trophy were also played on the Outdoor Maniototo Rink. The Hore Cup was again won by Otago Central with Ranfurly as Runner-up and Hamiltons in Third place.

The Douse Trophy was won by the defending holders Ranfurly, with Windwhistle as Runner-up.

Shea Cup (Young Curlers Day) was called and Windwhistle were victorious with Hamiltons Runner-up.

Contractor’s Cup was held at the Maniototo Curling International Rink and the winners were Ranfurly with Kybeurn winning the Plate.

I am indebted to the team of Brother Curlers who arranged the draw and ran the competitions in my absence. Secretary Bro. Kevin McCrorie, Senior Vice President Bro. Barry Munro and Junior Vice President Richard Smith a special vote of thanks for a great effort.

A vote of thanks to the Ice Masters and all who contributed to a successful season from all who enjoyed the traditional curling in the Naseby Council last season.

Bro. Sam Inder
