Favourites deserved winners of Mixed Fours

Pre-tournament favourites Kenny Thomson, Brydie Donald, Lorne DePape and Marisa Jones confirmed their class to win the 2010 New Zealand Mixed Fours championship in Auckland last weekend.

They were the only unbeaten team going into the final against Team Hill (Len Hill, Christine Bewick, Len McSaveney, Beth Gibbs) and took charge late in the match to record a 6-3 victory.

25 Apr 2010 – The New Zealand team of Sean Becker and Bridget Becker has won the silver medal at the 2010 World Mixed Doubles Championship in Chelyabinsk, Russia.

The unbeaten Russian team beat the Kiwis 9-7 in a thriller, the final going to an extra end after the scores were tied after the regulation eight ends.

The second placing to the siblings from Central Otago's Ranfurly Curling Club represents a milestone for NZ Curling. It is the first medal of any colour won by a New Zealand team at a World Curling Championship.

Enthralling battles for gold at Winter Games

The world class quality of curling at the 100% Pure New Zealand Winter Games made for enthralling final games. The Australia men’s team took gold in a high pressure game against China, winning 9-6, and Japan beat the Chinese women’s world champions to take gold with a decisive 8-5 victory.

High praise for stadium after champs

World Curling Federation president Les Harrison believes the world junior championships could be held at the Dunedin Ice Stadium. "The juniors [under-21] would be good for Dunedin because of its large student population," Harrison, of Canada, told the Otago Daily Times. He attended last week's world senior championships in Dunedin and was impressed by the facilities and ice conditions...

Double gold for Canada at World Seniors

It was Canada's day at the finals of the World Senior's Curling Championship in Dunedin, New Zealand. The Men's and Women's gold medals both went to Canadian teams in the first world curling titles decided in the southern hemisphere.

Both winning teams also had the distinction of going through the tournament undefeated.

Maniototo rink one of the best says Wendorf

Keith Wendorf, director of competitions for the World Curling Federation, rates Naseby's Maniototo Curling International rink as one of the best facilities in the world. His support reinforces the favourable comments from competitors at the just-completed Pacific Championships.
