Maniototo dominate South Island Schools

9 Sep 2016 – The top Boys and Girls teams from Maniototo Area School dominated the 2016 South Island Secondary Schools Curling Championships.

Five Boys and two Girls sides lined up in the tournament at MCI Naseby over the weekend of 3rd and 4th September.

Maniototo Girls made no race of their best-of-five series against Otago Girls High School. They convincingly won the first three matches to secure the gold medals.

With three of the Maniototo Boy’s side named in the New Zealand Junior (Under-21) side just a few weeks earlier, they started as hot favourites. They lived up to that reputation when they won their four pool matches by substantial margins.

Otago Boys High School proved worthy opponents in the final, with the scores tied 6-6 after four ends. Maniototo then took charge of the second half of the match, running OBHS out of stones in the last end to win 10-6.

John McGlashan College #1 won the Boys bronze medal game 11-6 over Maniototo #2.
