27 Mar 2017 – If both the demand and calibre of entries for the curling at this year's Audi quattro Winter Games NZ is anything to go by then the 2017 edition should easily be the best yet.

"We've never seen the curling tournament full this early in the piece," said Games Sport Manager Iona Bentley.

With six of the top ten ranked teams in the world having signed up, the talent on show and level of competition will take the Audi quattro Winter Games NZ to a whole new level.

"The format here is Mixed Doubles, and with that also set to make its debut at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang (Korea) there seems to be a real demand for high quality competition. We're in a great position to be able to host that given we're six months out from the Winter Olympics," Bentley reiterated.

2015 champions Kalynn Park and Charley Thomas of Canada will return to try and defend their title along with teams from Scotland, Finland, Norway, Estonia, Australia, a raft of teams from Asia and two from New Zealand.

"The calibre of the field really shows the regard that the Games are held in on an international scale," said Winter Games CEO Arthur Klap. "This is a stand-alone tournament, there's no world series points on offer or anything like that, so these teams have opted to enter purely because of the competition and the uniqueness of coming to a great place like Naseby and the Southern Lakes."

Curling Mixed Doubles will be held in Naseby at the Maniototo International Ice rink from Saturday August 26th and culminates in the final on Wednesday 30th.
