Scott Becker and Bridget Becker

3 Aug 2015 – Bridget Becker and brother Scott were clear winners of the 2015 New Zealand Mixed Doubles championship last weekend, dropping just one game through the tournament.

This was Bridget's 5th national Mixed Doubles title, having won four of the five between 2007 and 2011 with older brother Sean. Scott interrupted their winning sequence in 2008 when he partnered Brydie Donald.

Thirteen teams entered the triple-life tournament, and the Becker duo swept the opening Pool A, winning the Pool A final 8-3 from Kelsi Heath and Kieran Ford.

Eventual runners-up Marisa Jones and Warren Kearney dropped their first game against Wendy and Peter Becker before going through to win the Pool B final in a tight 9-7 encounter from Waverley Taylor and Dave Watt.

They then handed Bridget and Scott Becker what turned out to be their only loss of the weekend, 8-7, in the first preliminary final (Pool A v Pool B winners). The tables were turned in the rematch, the Beckers taking it 10-4.

The last chance Pool C final was another close contest, but Jones and Kearney took that 7-5 against Eleanor Adviento and Brett Sargon to set up yet another chance to topple the beckers, but it was the Becker siblings who won the Championship Final 10-2.

For the winners and the bronze medallists the championship also provided ideal preparation for the Audi quattro Winter Games NZ 2015, as they are the two NZ Mixed Doubles teams previously selected for the tournament
