Dan first played for New Zealand in the 2000/2001 season when he skipped the team to its second Pacific Championship gold medal. This qualified them for the 2001 Worlds, where NZ finished 9th of 10 teams.

The team just missed qualification for the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, finishing 11th on the qualification points table that sent the top ten to the Olympics. Despite missing out by a couple of one-point games at that tournament, they believed they had a real chance next time around.

Dan delivered second stones in the NZ side that won the 2004 Pacifics and went on do well enough at the World Championship the following year to secure a place at the 2006 Winter Olympics.

In 2009 he came back into the NZ team after a two year absence to skip the side against an international field at the first 100% Pure NZ Winter Games in Naseby.

Dan's international successes continued in 2013 when he was vice-skip of the NZ Seniors Men's side that won the silver medal at the World Senior Men's Championship held in Canada - just the country's second ever medal at any World Championship.

Second placings at the NZ Mixed Doubles Championships in 2009 and 2010 were topped in 2014, when he teamed up with Marisa Jones to win gold.
